In-Home Vet Visits Are on the Rise

You may be seeing an interesting trend developing in veterinary care lately: Home visits from the vet. The practice goes by many terms, including in-home veterinary service, mobile veterinarian, and housecall veterinarian. Here are a few reasons this movement is on the rise, especially in the Little Rock area.

  1. Convenience, convenience, convenience – Just like location is a key selling point in real estate, in today’s non-stop world, convenience is a major selling point for mobile veterinary care. When the vet can come to your home for routine services such as vaccinations or well-pet check-ups, you don’t have to spend time packing up your pets, carting them across town to a veterinary clinic, and then waiting around until it’s your turn. With in-home care, you can continue your day-to-day schedule with minimal disruption and stress. Which brings us to the second reason housecall veterinarian service is gaining popularity.
  2. Stress reduction – Just like with some humans going in for medical or dental visits, going to the vet can be an extremely stressful experience for many pets even if they like their doctor. Some dogs or cats can be so frightened that they have to be medicated prior to a visit – even a routine check-up. This anxiety can be mitigated by having your dog or cat treated in the comfort of their own home. A traditional brick-and-mortar veterinarian’s office can be a somewhat chaotic place filled with strange smells and sounds, so a familiar environment for your friend is soothing and can alleviate stress.
  3. Lower Exposure to Contagions – When you go to a vet’s office you never know what kind of parasites or illnesses your pet could be exposed to in the waiting room or on the exam table. When your veterinarian comes to your home, the waiting room is your living room and exam room. Avoiding this risk is especially helpful if your cat or dog is elderly or has a compromised immune system.
  4. Best for Multiple Pets – Multi-pet households can find it to be a huge challenge to get annual wellness exams for all of the animals. Either you’re making several trips per year or you’re packing everyone up all at once which has its own challenges. Using a mobile vet is a great way to schedule all of your annual checkups and vaccinations at once, without the stress and hassle of crating and transporting everyone.
Marlow Ball DVM, Your Little Rock and North Little Rock Housecall Vet, is here to help!
Housecall veterinarians try very hard to make a visit for your cat or dog as easy and fear-free as possible. All pets are treated with loving care in every check-up and procedure. And making them as comfortable as possible by doing this in their own homes is the goal. If you’re in Little Rock or North Little Rock and you’d like to schedule a visit with the housecall vets at No Place Like Home, give us a call at 501-516-6813.
